Somehow as an 8 year old on a school trip I found myself in the Mausoleum Galla Placadia, Ravenna. Fair to say it blew my mind. Thirty something years I returned to try my hand at mosaic making the Byzantine way ourselves. This shape is a copy of one of the many in that ceiling.
